My cable comes into the house in the basement. Our main floor is decorated concrete including over the basement. The concrete floor allows no good way to run ethernet cable from the basement to the main floor I decided to use a wireless mesh system. My original candidates were Orbi and Velop. What I didn’t like about the Amplifi system, at first, was that the remote plug-in wifi units have no ethernet plugs. Then I read that you could use the Amplifi router as a mesh point with 4 ethernet ports. So I bought two of these, one as the router and the other as a mesh point. That was nearly $100 cheaper than my earlier candidates. Setup was easy with a little help from Amplifi online chat. I’m getting all the Internet speed I’m paying for on both floors. Wifi signal reaches throughout my 3500 sq foot main floor and I could always add a wifi only mesh point if needed. I should mention that ethernet backhaul is supported even though I could not use it.
I haven’t had it long enough to comment on reliability but I’m quite happy so far.

Having purchase this system to ‘check out’ how well it works – I am thoroughly impressed and am keeping it. Quick background; This is replacing a well-functioning Apple Airport Extreme, and I also compare this to the single Asus RT-AC5300 Router. The latter worked well, but was somewhat buggy in its implementation of Band Steering. While a great power user router (and I am quite verse in networking), I was looking for something more akin to the Apple experience. Having also tried Orbi, I quickly became frustrated by it’s ridiculous bugs, and issues with a multitude of devices I run (cameras, Nest, Garage, switches, computers – almost entirely a Mac / iOS environment). All in all 32 devices are connected to Wifi (+3 wired) right now.
Well, Orbi performed well (great throughput) but needs time for Netgear to iron out the firmware bugs.
Amplify was a joy to install; it ‘looks great’ (that’s important), has a great app (quite an Apple experience, too) and has all the features I was looking for INCLUDING REMOTE ADMINISTRATION (as of firmware 2.0). IPv6 is coming in a future update.
Having a 2000 square foot house and 2 levels, the mesh points registered well, I have 100 and 96 percent connectivity respectively, and throughput of all my devices is consistent and fast. Moreso, This is THE ONLY Meshpoint System that has 3×3 Mimo radios – which was important to me as virtually all high-end Macs take advantage of it (for a theoretical 1300Mbps connection).
Just as importantly, all of my devices and service ‘just work’. From Facetime to Bonjour Services / Back to my Mac, to AirPrint and networked HP Printers, to a number of remote tools; they all work (when they didn’t;t with the Orbi) – the same as they did prior with the (still excellent) Apple.
And yes, I am aware that the Amplify does not have a dedicated backhaul like the Orbi (and Velop) – but the brand, 3×3 Mimo (vs 2×2 at most with the rest), and great app & maturity of the device won me over. Stable, far-reaching, compatible and fast. Not much more you can ask for.

I wanted a mesh solution to replace an old ASUS router to provide complete, seamless coverage for my 3600 sq. ft. home and deck. After a lot of research, it basically came down to the Netgear Orbi, Eero 2nd generation or the Amplifi HD. I quickly eliminated the Eero because I did not like the idea of setting up an account and letting a third party control my router and all of its data. Although the Orbi generally rated higher for throughput in most reviews, I ultimately went with the Amplifi HD because of Orbi’s constant firmware issues and Netgear’s notoriously bad customer service. I’m glad I did. Setup for the Amplifi was a breeze and took all of about 15 minutes, most of which was simply waiting for the router and satellites to download and install the latest firmware. After two months now, it has been rock solid with no hiccups whatsoever. I am on a 100 mps internet plan and I get that speed consistently throughout the house and back yard. The router and satellites communicate with each other at between 200 – 300 mps (depending on satellite distance from router and radio interference from other devices) so the Amplifi should be a great whole house wireless solution for any internet plan up to that speed. I haven’t needed to use Amplifi’s customer support but I have noticed that they are very responsive to the issues and suggestions raised by by customers on their website. In short, if you are looking for a whole house wireless solution and don’t need gigabit speed, the Amplifi HD should be on your short list to consider.

AmpliFi has totally lifted the performance of my home Wi-Fi network to a new level. AmpliFi combines ingenious engineering, design and functionality to create a very powerful home Wi-Fi solution. Anyone who needs a Wi-Fi system that can be used stand-alone or configured as an extended network solution should give this outstanding product a try.

AmpliFi is my fourth home Wi-Fi system but I am certain it will be my last. I’ve finally found an easy-to-use, expandable and powerful system that does everything I want it to do – and then some.

For starters, AmpliFi is by far the easiest Wi-Fi installation I’ve ever installed. AmpliFi is literally plug and play, taking less than 5 minutes to configure. All I had to do was plug AmpliFi into my router, download the app, enter the information, and go. (I couldn’t help but snap a photo to share with you because, well, it looks so cool!)

The benefit is the blazing fast speed I now get with AmpliFi. Streaming movies and live TV is no longer a challenge for my family. Lag and wait time is a thing of the past – all of the content we want plays exactly as it should. In fact, you’d never know our family has cut the cable cord because everything we play is instant-on!

I also like how the AmpliFi app gives me a fanatical level of control over my home Wi-Fi network. The app displays performance data for all of the connected devices in my home, a handy Guest mode that can be used to control guest access to the network (including number of users, time on the network, and so on), a diagnose feature for troubleshooting, and other geeky tools. Suffice to say that AmpliFi has made the management of home Wi-Fi as easy as it can possibly be. There’s nothing about the AmpliFi that I would want to change.

I highly recommend AmpliFi HD Home Wi-Fi Router to everyone.

Set up was quick and easy. Base unit is attractive and small. Remote extenders are attractive and unobtrusive. Performance has been exceptional. We have tried multiple brands of “powerful” wireless routers that promised whole house WiFi. This is the first system I have used that resulted in ZERO complaints from my multi-tasking, constantly streaming family. My youngest son’s room is on the third floor and our family room is on the first floor on completely opposite sides of the house. Our router is in the kitchen on the main floor. We get perfect signals every where without delays. All the Firesticks and Fire TV connections work without delays. The gaming consoles are wicked fast. Our Echo’s are always connected. We finally have peace.
